Evening Walk

I hadn't planned to do much on Monday. I had some forms to fill in for the insurance claim and then I needed to drive to the car repair centre in order to get an estimate. In all honesty, I also wanted to get some of the housework done - there is only so much I can overlook before it gets too much for me and I feel the need to give everything a thorough clean. The kitchen and bathrooms are now spotless and I also vacuumed the whole house from top to bottom. There is still some dusting to do, but I can live with that for now.

The next job on my list was to wipe down the paddling pool and inflatables, and put them away for the time being. I always feel a little bit sad to do this, as I never quite know if the weather will be warm enough to get them out again over the summer. The pool has been cleaned and is drying out at the back of the house; I don't want to roll it up while it is still wet. The inflatables are already packed away in their bag. I like to look after them, especially as, aside from the doughnut, they were all bought for Lily's first holiday to France when she was only three months old. I should have realised back then that she'd be a water baby :)  Happy memories.

In between chores, I spent some time catching up reading blogs and I enjoyed a mostly relaxed afternoon. It was while I was eating dinner that I thought about a spontaneous walk up a local fell. With several small fells to choose from we settled on the one farthest from the house which we thought would be the most quiet.

It was a typically bright summer's evening and the air was still very warm. We walked steadily along the path, stopping regularly to take in the views, although we were briefly distracted by the sight of some large raspberry bushes. We might have helped ourselves to a few but I must remember to see if there are any left over where I usually pick mine.

The fell wasn't only quiet, it was completely empty, aside from some sheep and cows. It is most unusual not to pass the occasional runner or dog walker up there.

It felt so good to be out, making the most of the evening sun.

  1. I so need to clean the bathrooms, but I'm just not in the mood today - even though I really do love a clean bathroom. I'm washing bedding now and about to tackle our grocery list for shopping in the morning. Trying to come up with meals for this terribly hot and humid weather when you don't want to turn the stove on. Almost 100 degrees today and will be for the rest of the week. I like to say I have cabin fever in the summer, not winter, as our summers are sooooooo hot.

    1. Cleaning the bathrooms can feel like a thankless task, but I do love it when they look shiny and clean. Household chores are not much fun in this heat. X

  2. You were a "busy beaver" this morning. -smile- I do understand how things can get just toooooo much... On the how-the-house-looks front. And it is good for our mind-set, to put things in order again.

Oh I am sorry that your really warm weather is past. And you have to put the pools/floats away. That was a quick week, of such summer fun.

What a lovely walk, in the evening. More beautiful photos, of your area.

    1. Yes! I couldn't stand to look at the mess any longer. And, as it is raining, the dust will get dealt with today.
I hope we can get the pool out again in the coming weeks, but for now we have rain. The gardens will welcome it, even if I don't. X

  4. Those raspberries look delicious, I've been enjoying quite a few lately but bought ones sadly, how I'd love to pick some wild ones. Your evening walk looks wonderful.

    1. We have quite a few wild raspberries around here, so walking always takes us a little longer at this time of year :)

  5. One of the things I love most about summer are the evening walks we take. It's a lovely time of day to be out, so many people are happy to be sat at home so everywhere is so much quieter and there's a stillness about the world, especially on hot, sunny evenings.

    1. During the summer, it is lovely to have this opportunity, as it isn't something we would usually do on a school night. I couldn't believe how quiet it was up there. X

  6. You can come and do my bathroom if you like Jules, I hate doing my own cleaning after I've done so much in other places :) Your evening walk sounds like a nice quiet end to the day, I love the first photo :)

    1. You are always so busy Eunice, so I'm not surprised. It's one of those chores I put off for as long as possible, but it actually doesn't take me that long to clean once I set my mind to it. I always feel a sense of achievement once it's done :D

  9. It looks so still and beautiful and how nice to find some raspberry bushes. I hate housework but always feel so much better once it's done, it's a shame to think that we may not have more warm days to enjoy the paddling pool, fingers crossed we will have lots more I'm not ready to give up on Summer yet. xx
