We Made It!

This was the view from my ride to work on the last day of term. Once again, it has been a challenging year but we were some of the more fortunate ones who made it through to the final day without the need to isolate. I feel relieved for us, yet sad for the students and members of staff for whom the school year ended rather more abruptly. This summer's break has arrived not a moment too soon and I really hope we will see some semblance of normality when we return at the beginning of September.

Sports day still went ahead last week, albeit without parents in attendance, but thanks to online learning platforms the school was able to share footage from most of the afternoon's events. Lily was thrilled to come first in both her running and skipping races. She is rarely seen in the playground without a skipping rope in her hand, and I'm sure she is faster running with one than without :)

The ritual of emptying both school and PE bags is now complete and I am looking forward to spending the next seven weeks with very few commitments, and days to fill just however we please.

Here's to summer!

    1. This current weather takes me back to the long summers I experienced as a child. I don't seem to remember it ever raining during the holidays, although I know it did :) X

    1. I think I'd be a little afraid at what might be hiding in those bags :)
Your camping trip sounded wonderful, and I've already taken a quick look online at the site. I doubt we'll be venturing anywhere this year but I will keep it in mind for future camping breaks. Enjoy the rest of your summer. X

    1. Thank you, and I'm so sorry but I must have accidentally deleted your previous comment where you were asking about our restrictions. This is the reason I usually try not to answer comments using my phone! :)
I hope I can address your queries. In March last year, we began a full lockdown here. School closed for the majority of children (those classed as vulnerable and those children of key workers still attended) and we were home learning until the official start of summer break. Since September last year, school has been open again using a class bubble system, with no mixing between classes and where only individual bubbles needed to isolate if there was a positive test among their staff or students. School was closed for a extended period after the Christmas break, but has been open again since February using the bubble system once more.
Unfortunately, most of the usual school activities haven't gone ahead over the last year and parents have not been allowed to enter the school building. Mask wearing has been mandatory at drop off and pick up. X

  9. Well done to Lily winning two races :) It's ten years since I last worked in a school so I'm a bit out of touch with holiday dates - I thought our kids finished last Friday but they still have this week to go. I really only know when they are off as there's much less traffic on the roads in the mornings and you can actually get a taxi when you want one!

    1. Thank you, Eunice. And it was lovely to be able to watch her in the skipping race, even if it was the following day :)
Schools finished here last Friday, but I understand many have until the end of this week. X
