First Frost

It was a pleasant surprise to wake up to more seasonable weather yesterday. Overnight we had received our first real frost, and during my journey to walk I felt quite spoiled, being able to enjoy the quiet of the morning. The sky was clear and bright and the surrounding fields sparkled in the sunlight. A welcome change from the mild damp days we have been experiencing in recent weeks.

Thank you so much for your kind messages regarding Mog. I am pleased to say she is completely recovered now, and back to her usual self. Even my 5am wake-up calls have been re-established! I must admit, I had been quite concerned to begin with, as until this recent setback, she had never previously shown any signs of illness. Not bad going for over seven years. And Boo appears to be growing bigger by the day. He really is the sweetest, most affectionate little ball of fluff.

And I'm also feeling much better now. It turns out there was a virus doing the rounds at work, and thankfully I got off lightly compared to most.

Looking back, November has been a quiet month, and if I'm being honest it felt as though I had wasted some of my days. In hindsight, I think I needed this time to pause and reflect. Looking ahead, December is going to much more busy. I am still not feeling as prepared as I would like, but I hope I might be making some headway after the weekend.

This evening, I've hung Lily's Advent stockings and tucked a festive, foil wrapped chocolate into each one. Whilst doing so, I whispered a grateful thanks to last year's me, who clearly decided it would be a far better idea to leave each individual stocking firmly tied to the garland, and saved this year's me an hour or so of unnecessary faffing. A small win, but a win nonetheless :)

  1. I also enjoy cooler frosty days (with sunshine) to the horrible wet and windy days we have recently experienced.
Your photographs are lovely to see.

    I can't believe it's December tomorrow, I wish you a happy month.

    All the best Jan

PS Good news about Mog and Boo :)

    1. We've endured more than our fair share of wet and windy days recently. This more seasonable weather is far more reassuring.
December does seem to be upon us all of a sudden. The Winter Solstice will soon be here. Xx

  2. Ooh, that frost looks beautiful, but, cold! Glad to hear that Mog is quite recovered, Boo is being the cute kitten he should be, and you are feeling better. There are no wasted days; each day is precious even if we rested and took it easier on certain days than on others. :) December is always a busier month, isn't it? Glad to hear that keeping the advent stockings tied to the garland turned out to be a good thing and a time saver. :)

    1. You are right about the not so wasted days. And looking back at previous years, November has usually been a quiet month, so perhaps it is with good reason. X

  3. I love a good frost; it is totally transformative and makes everything stunningly beautiful.
So glad Mog is good again .
Don't panic - you'll get there. One thing at a time and maybe make lists!! Crossing things off again is so therapeutic.

    1. I think of frost as nature's glitter. I love how it makes the countryside sparkle. Perhaps I should write a few lists this weekend :)

  5. Beautiful photos, the frost looks quite magical. We've had nothing but dull, dreary days just lately, and mist and fog to boot. I'm glad to hear that you and Mog are now recovered. It is quite worrying when our furry friends are ill, it would help if they were able to say how they were feeling but we can only guess. I hope Lily enjoyed her first chocolate of advent.

    1. Thank you, Jo. It can be a bit of a guessing game when our pets are unwell, although I did have my suspicions given the timeline of events. I've never seen Mog look so sad. Xx

  6. We have had some frosts but nothing quite as dramatic or photographic. I cannot believe we are back here on 1st December with Christmas about to happen once again. I am hoping for a simple Christmas - but looking at my full calendar I am wondering if that is a realistic possibility!
