Bright Sunshiny Days

Oh, I'm so easily pleased. Sunshine and balmy hot days make me very, very happy indeed. Hasn't it been glorious? From waking up in the morning with a room flooded with sunlight, to long days spent outdoors ending with evenings relaxing in the garden.

Naturally, we have been making the most of every moment as, of course, this beautiful weather is likely to change any day now.
We've been at the beach, enjoyed a picnic, explored the rock pools and idled the day away. Having heard how busy some beaches were at the weekend I was pleasantly surprised by just how quiet it was.

We ventured slightly further afield and enjoyed a walk somewhere we would never have thought to visit before, through the fields, along country lanes and old canal towpaths. Beautiful scenery.

Mostly, however, we have been spending time in the garden. We've had the paddling pool out which, incidentally, is THE best way of keeping cool in this weather, especially as most of the water gets splashed over anyone within close range. Any left over by the evening is used to water the plants.
Our tent has been checked over, aired and tent pegs replaced in hopeful anticipation of enjoying the occasional camping trip during the summer break.
Sitting in the garden has also enabled me to pick up my crochet hook again. I'm not creating anything exciting, just a cushion cover, but it's a lovely way to unwind.

To avoid too much time cooking and having the oven unnecessarily warming the house, I've been keeping meals simple. We've eaten pasta, quick paella and this evening we'll be eating mushroom and spinach omelette with salad. I do love how this weather lends itself to eating healthily without any real effort. I'm drinking lots of water too. I'm hoping my body will thank me for it.
I have so many things I need to be getting on with - hedge cutting, painting the front door and sweeping the drive to name but a few, but they will have to wait. I'm enjoying this weather while it lasts. After all this could be the only Summer we get!

  1. I'm so pleased to find someone else enjoying the warmth of what a summer should be. So many blogs I read are people moaning about the heat. Enjoy it while it lasts is what I say as it will probably not last long

  2. It has been glorious and feels more like August.
Definitely enjoy the sunshine and yes, keep well hydrated. Quick easy meals and lots of salad is the way to go. Your crochet work is very neat and I love the colour of your wool. More summer days are on the way :)

    1. Thank you Eileen. I've been drinking plenty of water and (surprisingly for me) it's the kind that doesn't contain coffee and milk! X

  5. It is lovely to spend time outdoors, walking, eating and snoozing! Shame I am back at work now and my office is almost unbearably hot - no air conditioning for us - I have to keep going to run my hands under the cold water tap just to cool down. In contrast it has been really cool here in Yorkshire today and there is a flood warning for Scotland!

    1. I hope Evie is enjoying the good weather. It's quite easy to avoid the bad stuff in this heat, although I don't include ice cream - It's a necessity :-)

  7. It's been glorious, hasn't it? It was a little cooler yesterday, but I was pleased of the break if I'm honest, warmer again today though. How lovely to find a quiet beach, we headed off to the coast on Sunday to a beach which is usually quiet only to find that dozens of other people had the same idea, I've never seen that beach so packed before. It was still lovely though.

    1. It's fabulous. My whole body just relaxes in this heat - I don't deal very well with being cold. It was so lovely and quiet at our beach. I'd heard plenty of others were packed. X

  8. Sounds idyllic, enjoy the beautiful sunshine while you can. Love the colour of the yarn for the cushion cover. It would be nice to have a little more heat in the sun here but I am grateful that there is not a lot of rain so a lot of the outdoor jobs are getting done.

    1. Vitamin Sea is such a tonic on hot sunny days. Our paddling pool only has one ring to inflate so it's not too much hard work. X

  13. Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes, my 'retreat' is perfect for me. Between the hanging plants and the tinted roof I can enjoy the outside but stay out of the sun. Very windy and dull today. An hour north of us they had winds of 128km an hour-lots of damage.

  14. With our UK weather you never know how long the sun will last, so it's always best to enjoy it while you can.
Paddling pools are just brilliant for cooling down in, and such fun too.

And as for your mushroom and spinach omelette with salad ... now that is just Yum!

  15. Lovely crochet. And such gorgeous countryside in your photos. I rather miss paddling pools, although the boys always turned them into obstacle courses when they were little! Have a lovely weekend, Jules x

  16. Good decision to hold off on the jobs and enjoy the weather while you can. Evenings are the best time for me in summer. I love sitting in the garden with a brew just contemplating. I was going to ask where the beach is but maybe it's a secret you should keep to yourself :) Not much cooking happening here either, apart from Thomas' sausages of course. We tend to pick at things and then we don't feel hungry for a proper meal. Not that I'm complaining, it's a welcome break from the kitchen. Have a lovely week. xx

    1. It is so relaxing to sit in the garden in an evening, with a brew or even something stronger.
The hot weather has shifted my cooking habits but it has now made me a little bit lazy and I'm a bit loathe to spend much time in the kitchen. I fully intended to do some baking this weekend, which hasn't happened. X
