Bright November days

November days can often be grey, dull and gloomy but recently we have been fortunate enough to enjoy some beautiful sunshine. Even better is that these sunny days have fallen on the weekends when we have been able to seize the opportunity to get out.
Last week we walked up Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales. As it was a beautifully clear day there were amazing views right out towards the sea. There were a few fell runners on the mountain and one even challenged Lily to a short race! Of course she was up for it and gave it her all.
It was a long but (fairly) easy climb to the summit but we didn't spend very long up there as it was sooo windy! We hastily ate our lunch in the wind shelter and retraced our steps back down the mountain.

This weekend's walk was closer to home. We went through the fields and up towards one of our favourite viewpoints overlooking the mountains. It was a beautiful frosty morning and named 'ice day' by Lily who was fascinated by the frozen puddles. There are now more leaves on the ground than on the trees, their dark silhouettes contrasting against the brightness of the sky.
Wintry weather is creeping in now and I'm wearing my woolly jumpers on a daily basis with scarves and mittens within easy reach for those colder mornings. I'm not good with cold weather and always have to wrap up well.
Yesterday I treated myself to my first mince pie of the season and this week, once I've finished making my sofa throw, I will begin my festive planning. Yes! It's getting close to that time of year again. Who's ready?

  1. Even though November can be grey, it is good to take advantage of the good days and get out and enjoy the crispness of the day. Winter will soon be with us and for me that means hibernation.

    Your pictures are lovely.

    1. Thank you Tania. We make the most of the good days here, as when the weather's bad it's very bad. X

  4. It does make a difference to get some sunshine instead of all the gloomy days, I think the good days are important to lift the spirits during the winter months as I don't do the cold weather well either. I'm nowhere near ready for Christmas, I thought this year may be different after the disaster which was last year, having my dad in hospital over the festive period, but my mum's been taken back in again so we're back to hospital visiting again. It does eat into the time, as well as being very stressful and exhausting. Christmas is on the back burner for now but I'm sure everything will get done in time for the big day.

    1. It's so important to get outdoors at this time of year, especially as daylight can be limited. I can empathise with the hospital visiting and I hope this Christmas will be a lot less stressful for you and your family. X

  5. Those blue skies are gorgeous! Really cold here too but no frozen puddles as yet. I am getting ready for Christmas, the shops start so early now it's easy to get things slowly but surely:)

  6. I'm sure you live in your own personal weather zone Jules. Every photo you post has the most brilliant blue sky which is something I've not seen for a very long time! Grey dominates here at the moment.

Love that Lily took up the challenge to a race bless her.

Am I ready, you ask. Yes, sort of, on paper at least. Just need to actually get on and start 'doing' lol. xx

    1. I wish! I spoke too soon Suzanne. The weather is dreadful now and I had to negotiate a lot of flooding on the school run this morning.
You've got the right idea with planning. I must get some lists written, I think that's half the battle. X

  7. We have had a couple of sunny days here Jules and they have been so beautiful. I am looking forward to being out in the fresh air with my girls on Saturday at the Adventure Farm. As it is a little higher up there than we are at home I am expecting it be be very fresh and so gloves and hats are being hunted down in readiness.
    Hugs-x-

  9. Oh, dribbling with envy! Especially the first and third photos - clear blue sky and limestone pavement - what’s not to like!

How kind of the runner to challenge Lily to a short race, that is the sort of odd, thoughtful, fleeting moment that you might be surprised to find she remembers for ages :-)

    1. The views were stunning Jayne, it was such a clear day.
It was very kind of the runner. However, I'm not sure he expected her to actually accept the challenge! X

    1. Thank you Pat. The last time I had climbed it was around eight years ago when I did the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and as it was the final climb I didn't get to appreciate it then. X

  13. Bright November Days are just glorious and if you can get out and about and enjoy them ... they are even better.
Beautiful photographs again, that sky is so blue!

    Mince Pies in November!!!
    Well, why not.

    1. It really has been glorious Jan. Today hasn't been so great, however, with localised flooding and many roads just about passable.
The Mince Pies were a bit of a treat. We had just been to visit the reindeer so I think we were obliged to really. X

  15. I do love the mountains...

    ...kids love running...

...I suppose they do it all now while they are young to make up for when they become teenagers when everything is too much of an effort :)
